Ada Township is a general law Township located in Kent County. As with many of Michigan, and Kent County’s townships, Ada has a rich history. It began as a fur trading post in the 18th century, yet as the 20th century came into fruition, so did the retail and residential developments in the area. Today, it operates as one of Grand Rapids’ bedroom communities. Incidentally, it was Kent County’s first official settlement.
Ada County remains rich with history, and a real sense of communal spirit. Perhaps this can be traced back to its pioneer roots as the area’s first settlement, or in its artifacts that still stand today. For instance, locals can marvel at the iconic Ada covered bridge. It was first built in 1867, however, a 1979 fire led it to be refurbished and restored. Today, it is one of the few covered bridges left standing in Michigan.
Today, Ada Township exists in 37 square miles and is home to more than 13,000 residents. While the number of inhabitants might seem relatively low, make no mistake, Ada has 100 businesses, offering plenty of job opportunities to its residents. It comes as no surprise that homes for sale in Ada Michigan are steadily sought after. Ada offers a slice of small-town America, yet only exists 13 minutes east of downtown Grand Rapids. As a result, commuting from locale to locale is a breeze.
A quick search into Ada will quickly showcase a hidden gem within the metro, Ada is home to 1,000 acres of public land, making it an ideal place for community gatherings. If you’re someone who enjoys seeing their investments directly reflected back to them in public initiatives, the township provides that and more. Not to mention, Ada is home to four community parks and miles of trails to explore. Furthermore, Ada is nestled right at the convergence of the Grand and Thornapple Rivers. This idyllic landscape includes over 15 +miles of trails, an impressive number given its size. The residents of Ada are given the opportunity to indulge in the healing nature of the area, as outdoor exercise has proven time and time again to do wonders for mental and physical health.
Ada also fosters a small-town charm through its many community initiatives. When purchasing houses in Ada MI, buyers aren’t just granted access to some of the area’s most beautiful and affordable homes. Prospective buyers are given a fully actualized community with a regular farmers market, library, and plenty of events all throughout the year. Particularly in the spring and summer where events for all ages happen regularly. These events often capitalize on the built-in features of the area such as fishing classes, treasure hunts, and a summer concert series. Whatever your interests may be, Ada has an event, class, or course sure to elicit excitement.
Ada is relatively removed from Grand Rapids, which is considered the area’s urban hub. It is far enough removed to offer plenty of housing options, however, the opportunity to commute easily to downtown Grand Rapids still exists. As far as the housing market in Ada is concerned, here’s what prospective buyers can anticipate from the tight-knit community.
Despite its intimate feel, there are a lot of different options for buyers who live a variety of different lifestyles. Housing options are varied, with a lot of choices for scenic-focused residences, as the natural beauty of the area often makes the perfect backdrop. Residents can choose between sweeping views of meandering river vistas or lush rolling meadows. There are options closer to the core of “downtown” or more secluded country homes that exist on wooded lots with no shortage of natural charm. Singular buyers or those with multiple living in their homes will find plenty of options on gorgeous tree-lined streets beckoning the simplicity of the suburbs.
However, Ada remains a malleable option yet, with plenty of opportunities for those looking to partake in transitional housing or downsizing. Essentially, whatever phase of life you currently find yourself in, Ada has options for you. Ada Michigan realtors like myself are happy to show you the charms of the township, one that maintains a strong sense of community and identity in spite of all the world’s changes.
If you value proximity to nature, impeccable outdoor recreation, and “buy local” approach to your shopping habits, Ada checks the boxes and then some. If the aforementioned appeals to you, you might just be ready to call Ada Township home!
